When it comes to skincare I am as particular about the products I have in my kit as I am with the make-up I use. Over the course of a year I work my way though a huge array of products and although many I do use in my pro kit, very few become a permenant fixture.
One product that is here to stay (if you can excuse the kit-battered packaging) is Natural Eye Make-up Remover from Beyond Organic Skincare (£10.00), a Natural and organic skincare company based in Cornwall. I am a massive fan of their Age Defying Serum so when I was sent a bottle of the remover to try at the end of 2016 I had high hopes and it didn’t take long for it to become my go-to product for cleaning up the eye area.
Natural Eye Make-up Remover is a thick, luxurious cream. Massaged into the eye area it feels beautiful and easily removes eye make-up – even waterproof mascara (albeit a natural one so less hardcore than conventional brands). Once the eye make-up has been erased, the skin is left feeling nourished and soft.
The formulation is based on a blend of castor and sunflower oil and so it does leave a slightly oily residue on the surface of the skin and for this reason I recommend using it prior to cleansing. When doing a stronger eye make-up I usually apply the shadow and liner before the foundation as invariably there is some fall down onto the cheek and under eye area and it’s necessary to clean up afterwards. On these occasions I use the remover on the tip of a cotton bud (q-tip) and then wipe over the under eye area with a little micellar water so the foundation and concealer then go on evenly.
What the bottle is meant to look like!
Both Castor oil and sunflower oil are beneficial for the skins health. As well as lifting the make-up, Castor oil reduces inflammation and sunflower oil is rich in omega 6. The other key ingredient is cucumber extract which is great for use around the delicate eye area. Cucumber extract is rich in vitamin E, potassium and antioxidants all of which are key in reducing the signs of ageing. It also has skin firming and rejuvenating properties and reduces puffiness.
This natural eye make-up remover gets a lot of praise from people in my make-up chair and it is a firm favourite with one of my regular female presenting faces.
