Zero Waste Kit Additions

This month I thought I would share with you some reasonably recent additions* to my pro kit – and best of all they can all be considered zero waste!

Pure Source Bamboo Cotton Buds (£7.99)

Bamboo has to be one of the most underrated resources out there! I love the stuff, although I admit, it can be a pain in the garden!  Bamboo has become an integral part of ethical living and is so versatile; from toilet roll to t-shirts to beer. It is being used everywhere; even in these cotton buds!

Pure Source Bamboo Cotton Buds are 100% natural and biodegradable. Plastic cotton buds have now been banned in the UK and these are definitely a lot sturdier than their paper stemmed cousins whilst still being lightweight. My initially concern was that they would be a little scratchy on the skin due to the solid nature of bamboo compared to paper, however this isn’t the case and the buds are well padded with cotton and are easy and comfortable to use.

These buds are a bit more expensive than many on the market and so for an individual they are perfect; as a Make-up Artist however they are possibly a less viable option on a regular basis as we get through cotton buds like nobody’s business! That said, I will definitely be purchasing them in the future – for myself if not for my kit.

Vita Bloom Reusable Cleansing Pads (£15.00)

I’m no stranger to a reusable cleansing pad as I am sure you know (I’ve featured them on here a few times in the past  – here) however this brand has been my most recent discovery.

Smaller than the majority of reusable cleansing pads in my kit, making them great for use around the eyes, the Vita Bloom pads made using bamboo velour. You get fourteen cleansing pads in a pack and two pads which are specifically designed for removing nail polish. Easy to use and equally easy to wash; just pop them in the machine with your laundry. For ease, also included are two 100% organic cotton wash bags so they don’t go missing in the machine… The sock monster seems to have also taken a liking to cleansing pads and powder puffs in my household!

EMel Make-up Brush & Sponge Cleaner (£12.00) (V)

Solid brush shampoo is another product that I have been a long term fan of. This particular shampoo is new to the market and has been launched by a Make-up Artist colleague of mine, Emma McRae.

Hand crafted here in the UK from coconut oil, May Chang and Tea Tree essential oils, this wonderfully zesty and uplifting, aromatherapy based cleaner is not just for the professional makeup artist but anyone who loves makeup (and make-up brushes)!

I’ve been road testing it for a few months now and am loving it. It is incredibly gentle but easily removes powder, cream and even oil based products from brushes (both natural and synthetic ones) and make-up sponges and most importantly, has antibacterial and antiseptic properties – vital for any brush cleaner!

*In the interests of transparency, all of these items were gifted to me however I have been road testing them for some time and they all do a great job – you know I post nothing on here for the sake of it; if I don’t like it I won’t write about it!

Have you discovered any zero waste additions to your beauty routine lately?
