Zao Lipstick In Dark Nude

You may remember that in my Ilia Beauty Humble Me post a few weeks ago I mentioned that I don’t usually wear nude lipsticks because I hadn’t found one that (I felt) truly worked for me? One that didn’t make me look washed out, wasn’t too orangey or make me look as if I’ve stepped out of the sixties? Pretty much as soon as I had written that post I found one!

Zao Lipstick In Dark Nude
I overlooked this lipstick for a long time. First glance at the bullet and the lipstick looks a little too safe for my liking – and a little too 90’s. In fact it is the sort shade I wouldn’t even think of picking up when I am on the hunt for a lip – You would’ve thought I’d been doing this long enough now to know that often all isn’t always what it seems when it comes to lipstick but c’est la vie.

Swatched on the skin, Dark Nude is a warm, russety brown toned lipstick however on the lips (at least mine anyway) it takes on a different personality; a totally natural looking shade which (on my lips at least) flatters and enhances  my natural lip tone . You can see the difference below FullSizeRenderIMG_9231

Described as matte, I would say it errs more towards a satin finish than matte; there is a soft sheen which gives it a flattering finish. It’s very comfortable to wear, not too drying or slippy and doesn’t leave that unpleasant looking rim of colour on the edges of your lips as it wear off. My only real bugbear with it is that it isn’t particularly long lasting and definitely needs reapplying after a meal or drink.

The bamboo packaging is simple, understated and refillable! Simply purchase the refil bullet and pop it in – saves you over £5.00 on the purchase price too. You can get hold of Dark Nude (£15.50/£9.99) on the Zao website or from Beautifully Organic.
