Top Five: Unicorn Inspiration

Mythical creatures may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of this blog but did you know that tomorrow (April 9th) is actually Unicorn Day? I discovered the existence of this fabulous day of celebration last year (around the end of April typically) and have been holding off from publishing this post ever since!!

Unicorns have been a creature of myth and legend for thousands of years, Artworks depicting Unicorns were found in the historical region of Mesopotamia (on todays maps it would incorporates parts of Syria, Iraq and southeastern Turkey) and the first descriptions of a single horned creature are to be found in Indica a work of greek literature written by the Physician/Historian Ctesias (c. 400 BCE).

Originally considered to be fierce and powerful animals, over the years these (possibly) mythical creatures have become a symbol of love, purity and enchantment. In the past few years they have seen resurgence in popularity with imagery appearing on everything from t-shirts to pencil cases!

Thanks to the multitude of Unicorn fans, brands have been productive and I could pick any number of luminous, iridescent products that are available on the market, however my focus is of course what is available in terms of natural beauty.

(I’ve avoid bio-glitters as I wrote about this not long ago)

Here are my Top Five Unicorn inspired natural beauty products…

Prismatic Pearl Creme Lip Gloss – Bite Beauty ($22.00)

Inspired by rare Tahitian black pearls, Prismatic Pearl Crème Lip Gloss from Bite Beauty has a light-refracting, shimmering multidimensional finish. The colour payoff of these lip glosses is immense! Now we are unable to get Sephora to ship to the UK I haven’t been able to get hold of one of these glosses as yet but they appear to be super pigmented and give a foiled look to the lips. Available in eight shades you can decide what kind of unicorn you want to be today!

Shine-Up Powder – Zao make-up (£23.50)

Zao’s Shine-Up (Pink Champagne) is a highlighting powder which when applied to the skin adds luminosity and radiance. It has a pinky silver, iridescent finis which can be built up for added intensity. The texture is beautiful and it glides onto the skin.

Glow Sticks – Lush (£11.95) (V)

A fabulous creamy vegan highlighter – in stick form!! Apply either with your fingers or directly onto the face with the stick. The shape of them means they can be used pretty much everywhere on the face and can be used to create a multitude of looks. There are an amazing ten different shades and each one has a slightly different finish, so you can choose your favourite unicorn inspo ; my fave is Ibis… Or maybe Rock Dove… Or… I can’t decide.

Fire Rainbow Clouds – Shiro Cosmetics (£5.99)

They may be cheap and cheerful but I’m loving the look of this loose powder from Portland based Shiro Cosmetics. Inspired by the natural phenomena fire rainbows this beautiful powder is a stunning soft, iridescent creamy pink shot through with turquoise and plenty of sparkle. It can be used on the cheeks, lips and eyes and even the lips!

Champagne Rosé Luminizer – RMS Beauty (£36.00)

I admit it was hard to pick my final choice but I’ve gone for the beautiful Champagne Rosé from RMS. A blushed pink luminizer (highlighter) with an iridescent rose hue. Possibly the most understated of the selection, it gives the skin a lovely opalescent glow and soft, dewy radiance.
