Black liquid liner is a key part of any pro kit. A product which can be (and has been) used for anything from the obvious lining through to creating temporary tattoos and even for adding the illusion of depth to an ad-hoc wound! I’ve been working my way though a few liquid eyeliners of late and this is one of my latest discoveries…
Lavera Organic Liquid Liner (£11.50) is the most recent addition to my kit and I have to say, one which was a bit of a surprise.
As a rule I have always preferred a liquid liner which has a brush style applicator, however the brushes are very hit and miss in terms of length, bristle density and usability and will vary from pop to pot – regardless of whether you use the same product time and time again. For this reason (and of course hygiene) I prefer to apply liquid liner to the back of my hand and then use a separate brush (my favourite is the LY..). Rules however rules are made to be broken…
This particular liner applicator is a bit of anomaly in as far as it is a hybrid. The pot resembles a conventional liquid liner however the nib applicator is one which is more commonly seen on a pen-style eyeliner. Pen liners have always been a non-stater for me as I hate the length and inflexibility of the nibs and as far as my kit goes, from a hygiene perspective they are definitely a no-no. But. The Lavera Liquid Liner has won me over. The nib is flexible (but not so much to it makes application tricky) and it draws a straight and even line.
The liner itself is inky black and dries matte; it goes on evenly*, dries quickly and lasts though a day on set.It is worth a mention that if you have eyes which are particularly prone to tearing up then this may not be the liner for you – it’s fine when controlled on set but will move if the eyes are rubbed. On the skin there is no irritation or tightness and it is suitable for contact lens wearers.
Although I can’t see myself changing my current method of application any time soon, this liner is certainly one I would buy again once this bottle has run out.
What’s your favourite liquid liner?
*As with any liquid liner, if you need to cover any gaps then go over with a black kohl pencil.
