This week is the sixth annual Organic Beauty Week and this year the Soil Association have thrown us a curve ball and are holding it in May (15th to the 21st), rather than as part of Organic September where it has become a familiar fixture (although with the recent weather you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s already September)…
Following the overwhelming success of Organic Beauty week in 2016, this year the Soil Association decided to step out from under the umbrella of Organic September and establish a stand alone event that not only celebrates organic beauty but also overall wellbeing, hence the name; Organic Beauty & Wellbeing Week (OBWW).
The demand for organic and natural products is increasing and in the UK sales of organic beauty products rose by 13%* in 2016. Unfortunately there is still a lack of clarity when it comes to beauty labelling and a lot of potentially misleading information which leaves consumers unable to make informed choices. The focus this year is on encouraging people to Look For The Logo. The Soil Association’s aim is to provide consumers with a better understating of organic certification and what it all actually means.
So what’s going on during Organic Beauty & Wellbeing Week?
If you are in London then it will definitely be worth a trip to the heart of the event where a Pop-Up shop is being held held at Protein Studios in Shoreditch. There a selection of Soil Association certified brands (including Odylique, Therapi and Herbfarmacy) will be selling their wears. Alongside the Pop-up will be a series of master classes, panel discussions and various other goings-on. Highlights for me include: Therapi Honey Skincare Masterclass, the Neal’s Yard Remedies Stress-less Workshop (I’m not a stress head, it just sounds lovely) and an Organic Beauty Masterclass with the fantastic duo that are Lou Dartford and Imelda Burke. This just a few of the highlights and there is loads going on, you can find a full list of activities along with booking information here.
Many Soil Association certified brands are running promotional offers through their websites throughout the week. If you are looking to try something new then check out the free samples, special offers and other promotions online. You can find a list of deals here.
If you can’t get to London next week then you won’t miss out; there are various in-store events, promotions going on all around the country. You can find a list of them all here.

Sadly I’m unable to make it to any of the events due to work commitments (believe me I’m gutted!) however there will be plenty going on here throughout the week too. I shall be talking about some of the products I believe you should change first when looking to clean up and green up your make-up bag, and of course recommending some Soil Association/Cosmos certified alternatives, so stay tuned thought this week.
