I am personal Make-up Artist for Hip Hop/Grime artist Dutty Menace and back in 2013 I worked on a promo to accompany his (then) latest track Mama Shoulda Told Me. Stepping away from previous themes, this particular promo was highly stylised. Think 1920’s prohibition, think tommy guns, pin curls, corsets and pin striped suits…. Yep you’ve guessed it a good ‘ole gangster movie style shoot ’em up – with a twist of course!
With the prep of Dutty Menace out of the way my attention was on the female lead; the glamourous Gangsters Moll. Along with the inevitable smokey eye came the red lip and the focus of this post, Couleur Caramel Lipstick in Red Brown (No. 201)

A beautiful shade that I would class as a blue toned raspberry rather than the entitled red brown. 201 isn’t the darkest of reds and not as historically accurate as I would have liked on its own, however I applied a slightly darker pencil all over the lip before applying and this gave the colour just a little more depth.
It is classed as having a glossy pearl finish but in my opinion it is not pearlised in the slightest – just slightly glossy.
Richly moisturising and long lasting, Couleur Caramel lipsticks are great to use on set as they need very little maintenance and touching up. Available in matte, glossy and pearl, there are a great range of Couleur Caramel lipsticks out there, so do check them out.

Couleur Caramel are one of my go-to brands for lip colours. As I had said, they have a great range of shades and wear incredibly well.
Red Brown is a beautiful colour and it’s use doesn’t need to be restricted to historical make-up’s – as I mentioned at the beginning of this post, it makes for a great festive lippy too! As beautiful a colour this is, sadly I am not sure if this colour is still being produced. I have done a lot of web searching but haven’t come across another supplier. If you do happen to find a supplier, do please let me know so I can restock.
I should give a special mention to the fabulous Flamingo Amy, who’s hairstyling helped create the final looks – she’s a genius!
