Archive: Micellar Water – Madara

I was than a little slow to the Micellar Water party. In fact you could say that I have walked in to a near deserted room; strewn only with abandoned beer cans, a broken table and some poor soul on their hands and knees trying desperately to scrub red wine out of the carpet… Picture the scene? Slow.

So. Having stepped over the odd sleeping body, I was introduced to Madara Micellar Water(£12.95/£21.75) thanks to a Love Lula Beauty Box and have it say it was love at first use.

For those of you not in the know, Micellar Water was created in France in the 1990’s and quickly became a hit with Make-up Artists everywhere. Micellar Water takes it name from micelles; tiny oil molecules suspended in water which (for want of a significantly better and more scientific explanation) cling to and dissolve particles on the surface of the skin.

This all sounds very convenient but the thing to remember is that Micellar Water is a quick fix and shouldn’t really be used as the only cleansing product on a regular basis (if at all). On days when I have been wearing little or no make-up, I have been using the Micellar Water in the evening as a first cleanse; applied to a cotton wool pad it has taken off the worst of the daily grime with ease before I go in with a more luxurious product.

Cooling and highly refreshing, I used it over the summer months it was a great pep up at the end of a hot, sticky day. The inclusion of Hydrolonic Acid (a hydrating ingredient considered to have a greater moisture retention capabilities than any other synthetic or natural polymer) and moisturising aloe Vera, means that it feels lovely on the skin and I haven’t found it in the least drying or irritating – even around the delicate eye area.

I have now finished the bottle and would be interested in trying a few more clean Micellar waters to see how they compare. I would definitely purchase this again in the future and can see it making a great addition to my kit.

Well, you may be pleased to know that Madara Micellar Water and I are still going strong!

Seven years after we first met, it is still my favourite cleansing water. I use it myself every morning to wipe away the overnight debris (we still party hard) before applying the rest of the creams and potions that make up my morning skincare regime. It is also a staple in my pro kit where it gets very frequent use.

I gave up buying the 100ml bottles years ago and now just buy two or three big ones (400ml) in the sales which I decant into smaller bottles which I keep in my kit and bathroom drawer. It works out so much cheaper that way – and I use less plastic!

I’ve flirted with other Micellar Waters over the years but this one is a keeper…

Have you a favourite Micellar Water?
