UNE Beauty Casual Matt Lipstick in MO8

 This week I have been working on a commercial for a company who specialise in the production of imaging and optical products (cameras, printers etc). The company were working with young british animator Emily Mulhall to showcase their latest product.
The setting for the shoot was Emily’s home – not her real home of course, but a suitably fabulous and arty looking loft apartment in East London. Being as Emily was meant to be at home,  the make-up brief was to keep it simple and very natural, so with this in mind I added a little definition and a sweep of liner to the eyes, a natural flush on the cheek and a fairly nude lip. Natural and understated but in-keeping with Emily’s personal style.

I wanted to add colour to the lip without it being obvious. Enhancing the natural colour of the lip without looking too made up. MO8 was one of three colours I picked out from my lip bag whilst I was setting up my kit but it wasn’t until I put it on I realised how perfectly it did what I wanted.
M08 is a deep pink toned nude. Like all of the UNE lipsticks it is designed to enhance natural skin tones rather than add colour (a point I had forgotten!). This said I couldn’t believe how it looked on Emily’s lips; it created the illusion of a saturated natural lip tone.

The lipstick itself is fairly creamy however it goes on and (on the lip) feels similar to a balm. Using a brush it goes on fairly sheerly but directly from the bullet you can get a good coverage with just a swipe. Wear wise, I would say it fits that description also; not so long wearing as a lipstick and it needs regular reapplication – probably its one down point.

Despite its name, I would not class this as a matte lipstick. There is a definite sheen to it and so I would consider it to have more of a satin finish. 

UNE used to be stocked in Superdrug and larger Boots stores, however after a brief absence from these shores they have resurfaced online at Love Lula and Naturisimo. Unfortunately neither seem to stock the Casual Matt lipstick however you can find it on Amazon for £6.49. If you are interested in the Casual Matt collection (which I can only assume is being phased out) you can pick up some of the shades for the ridiculously silly price of 49p. Yes. 49p.


Due to the confidentiality agreement I am sadly unable to show you any images from the shoot but the product will be introduced next month and on sale from September. I will of course share these as they are made public, so stay tuned!
