Top Five: British Eco Make-up Brands

I couldn’t complete this series of green global make-up highlights without a trip to the United Kingdom.

This post was originally significantly longer; Writing it brought up some valid points about British make-up which I think are worth raising. Initially I included them here, however soon realised that the paragraphs were actually deserving of their own post so as not to distract from the purpose of this post – the celebration of make-up from the British Isles.

If you want to buy British, here are my Top Five British Eco Make-up Brands…

Honeypie minerals (V)
I’m not a big user of mineral make-up however this was the first pure brand that truly won me over. A labour of love created after founder Claudia struggled with skin problems throughout her youth, the Honeypie Minerals range of neutral and fairly earthy tones is perfect for those with fair to medium skin tones.

I love the foundations – not a hint of sparkle, just a pure almost matte finish

Essential Care by Odylique
It would be remiss of me to miss out on what is probably one of the oldest of the British eco lines. One of the first line of make-up to be certified by The Soil Association, Suffolk (my home county) based Odylique pride themselves on their Eco credentials. The refillable range is bijoux however the shades are pretty and the ingredients second to none.

I am a big fan of the eye pencils and the beautiful range of eyeshadows (especially Gold!).

Earthnicity Minerals (V)
North London based Earthncity minerals (the second mineral make-up company I discovered I really liked) is a small company who specifically formulate shades which are suited for darker skin tones (they cater for all skin tones) and not in the least bit ashy. They also step outside the box when it comes to colour, offering a great range of vibrant eyeshadows.

My favourites from the range are the eyeshadows and the blushers – beautiful shades for darker skin tones. Plus their kabuki is a dream!

Green People
Created specifically for those suffering from eczema and other skin complaints, the Ecocert certified make-up arm of Green People is small and perfectly formed. The reformulated and repackaged range offers a selection of products all formulated using natural mineral pigments (with broad spectrum SPF15).

My picks from the collection are the powders, Lip Crayons and the mascara.

Lily Lolo
My fifth choice was a tough one but, thinking about the brands I use most, I’ve gone with Lily Lolo. Founded in 2005, Lily Lolo is a cross over between a pure mineral make-up brand and a traditional one, producing a mixture of pressed, liquid and cream products and loose powder products.

From the range my favourites are the lip gloss and the eye palettes.

If none of these float your boat then why not take a look at Neal’s Yard Remedies, PHB and NatOrigin.

This is the last in my Round The World series. If you missed any of the posts, you can find them here: Germany, France, USA, Canada, Scandinavia, Australasia.
