Top Five: 5 free Navy (ish) Nails
Autumn (gulp) welcomes the return of darker, richer shades of nail polish and this year is no exception. A number of the shows were sporting navy nails in varying finishes from mattes to metallics. Whether worn neat or incorporated into an elaborate display of nail art, it was navy all the way in the Autumn/Winter 15 shows of Karen Walker, Marissa Webb and Houghton.
Being a lover of a dark, grungy nail, here are five navy(ish) blue’s that have caught my eye this fall…
Not quite navy but more of a bright but deep blue with a micro shimmer, this is a very pretty and fun shade. It may be more Bon Jovi than Metallica but who cares!? In the words of Amy Lee (American singer-songwriter and pianist)… Honestly I just wear what I like. You know why? ‘Cause I can, I’m a rock star…
If you are looking for a blue polish, Zoya have them in spades. Sailor is a classic cool navy (probably the cleanest true navy I could find) with a thick and creamy opaque finish. Part of the Autumn 2013 Cashmere Collection, Sailor is one of those blues that definitely looks blue rather than black – even in low light.
A beautiful shade for the autumn/winter season, this is not your typical navy. Part of the HJ Signature Collection, Midnight Sky is a pretty deep but bright metallic blue. The initial coat gives a relatively sheer coverage but a second coat creates an opaque finish that stays put for days!
Trinidad from Mavala (£4.50)
Part of the 2014 Chilli and Spice Collection, Trinidad is another bright however this has an opaque, creamy finish with a high shine. In the bottle it reminds me a little of a school uniform blue; verging on the edge of being a royal rather than a navy but for the purposes of this post I am sneaking it in under the navy umbrella ;)
I am loving the look of Midnight Stroll. A dark blue with a subtle hint of purple, this polish is opaque and the formulation rich and creamy. It has a high shine finish that looks utterly fabulous!
