So many of the face paint options available on the high street and in supermarkets take the form of crayons or pencils. Generally at the cheaper end of the market, these are a great choice for those of you who aren’t to handy with a paint brush, however they are not without their toxic ingredients. There is another pocket money priced product out there however that is free from the heavy metals and synthetics…
Sante Face Pencils
These are a great face paint find and actually came as part of the face painting kit I purchased earlier in the year. Unlike many of their toxin filled foes, they take the form of simple, chunky wooden pencils with a lovely thick and creamy core (I’m a little opposed to calling it lead).
So, so easy to apply, the pencils are gentle on the skin and do not dry out or crack on wear however as with the Sante paints from my previous post, they will smudge a little when rubbed. One advantage over the paints is that they do require very little care or much of a make-up kit entourage (for want of a better word) and so you don’t need to have brushes, water or powder to hand.
Perfect for home use, the pencils are great for creating little designs on a small persons cheeks and adding an extra dimension to those dressing-up box raids; think cat whiskers or a pirate moustache. Although I personally wouldn’t rely on these as the only form of face paint in my kit, they are a great addition to the traditional set up. I have used these during event work when I need to write names or draw logos on faces and they are also great for adding detail to a painted face.
