SPF30 Stem Cell Facial Sunscreen – Madara

I’m not a year round sunscreen user (even on my face), I am most definitely a fair weather gal and so it is usually only between mid/late spring and early autumn I am reaching for a product which contains an SPF. 

I’ve spent the past few summers switching between some tried and trusted favourites on both face and body but this year I thought I’d try something new – on my face at least.

Madara’s Stem Cell Face Sunscreen (£29.00) has become a new favourite; a mineral based facial sunscreen with an SPF30 which ensures broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection.

The sunscreen is formulated using stem cells from Northern Dragonhead (a member of the mint family) which delivers a hyper-dose of antioxidants, shielding and protecting the skin against urban pollution. It also works to prevent sun damage, including dryness, wrinkles, pigmentation, dark spots and loss of volume.

I usually struggle with sunscreens on my face as most are too thick and heavy for me and I have even been known to get heat rash in the summer on my face from wearing too heavy a product. This on the other hand is a remarkably light sunscreen and I haven’t found it a noticeable addition to my skin in terms of weight. I cycle a reasonable amount and my skin seems perfectly happy even after a long ride on a hot day.

I’ve been applying this sunscreen daily (over the past month) on top of my usual skincare products. It can be applied to naked skin but I do need quite a bit of moisture so on it’s own it isn’t enough for me. On the skin it appears a little like a tinted moisturiser or BB cream and does give the appearance of smoother skin.

Unlike most sunscreens there is a definite pigment to the cream (it is called invisible nude) which is the first thing you will notice when it comes out of the tube; it has a muddy grey/brown tint to it but when you begin to rub it in there is a definite reddish undertone.

On application I have to admit that this slightly odd colour does transfer onto the skin and it takes a few minutes for my skin to return to its usual self – albeit with a little bit of a healthy glowing sheen.

I am pretty fair skinned and although not immensely pale so would be interested to see how it looks on deeper skin tones – if you do have darker skin and have tried it please let me know how you got on!
