International Women’s Day 2022

Extra post this week as today is International Women’s Day; a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women globally. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity and reinforcing women’s equality.

Did you know? International Women’s Day (IWD) has been held annually for over 100 years; it was first celebrated in 1911 where it was supported by over a million people!

This years theme is #BreakTheBias.

Imagine a gender equal world.

A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination.

A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Together we can forge women’s equality.

Collectively we can all

This is what this International Women’s Day 2022 is all about. Look for the hashtags #IWD2022 and #BreakTheBias to find out more about the campaign.

Did you know? Purple, green and white are the colors of International Women’s Day. Purple signifies justice and dignity. Green symbolizes hope. White represents purity, albeit a controversial concept. The colors originated from the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) in the UK in 1908.

To celebrate International Women’s Day,  I thought I would celebrate the achievements of a few green beauty brands who, aside from being companies I love, were founded all by Mother-Daughter teams.

Odylique

Suffolk based Odylique (formally known as Essential Care) are one of my favourite skin and body-care brands. Founded in 2003 by Margaret Weeds and her daughter Abi, Odylique was one of the first companies to create certified organic cosmetics

I’m not sure where to start here as I love some many of them but my favourite Odylique products include: Superfruit Concentrate (£33.00) a super nourishing facial oil; Calendula Balm (£15.00), a fabulous multi-tacker for all your dry and chapped bits; and finally a favourite in the OMUA household is the  Natural Sun Screen (£15.00), a reef-safe sunscreen for all the family.

Therapi

Launched in 2013 by Tanya Hawkes (a bee keeper and conservationist) and daughter Esme (a Biologist), Therapi are a certified skincare line based on the therapeutic properties of honey and propolis. Handmade in the Cotswolds, Therapi combine raw organic honey with botanical extracts to create skin nutrition that feeds both skin and spirit.

My favourite products from the range are: Propolis+ Ultra Radiance Cream (£40.00) an intensely nourishing moisturiser and Honey Lip Nectar (£9.00), a beautiful lip balm to soften and protect the lips.

English Mineral Makeup Company

The English Mineral makeup Company are an award winning makeup brand founded by mother and daughter duo, Jeanette and Grace Burrows. The pair combine the quality of luxury cosmetics with the very best 100% natural mineral ingredients to create an award winning collection for a wide range of skin tones.

Products I love from the collection are: Minimalist Translucent Foundation (£32.00) a lightweight mineral foundation which gives the skin a dewy glow and Blush (£25.00) an intensely pigmented range of ten shades for your cheeks.

Of course there are more companies out there who have been establish by a Mother/Daughter team, so a big shout out to them all!

Do you have a favourite Mother/Daughter brand?
