This months trip through posts past is a lipstick which was a bit of a novelty to me…
One of the great things about spring/summer beauty is the emergence of vibrant shades. I am a big lipstick fan but over the past few years I have fallen prey to the practical, low maintanence charms of tinted balms. On a night out I am usually seen wearing a dark or red lip, but of late I have (for probably the first time in my life) been rocking the brights and loving it!
Neon Angel from Ilia Beauty (£24.00) is probably not the obvious choice for a first foray into bright lips, but it was mine – I don’t do things by halves! The name jumped out at me first, nestled amongst the display of bottom-up lipstick tubes; I didn’t see the connection between the name and the plummy brown toned label on which it was printed. There is none.
A beautiful vivid pink, Neon Angel lives up to its name. Described as a true magenta it has a slight blueish undertone that looks stunning against both dark and fairer skins. With a smooth and creamy texture, the bullet glides easily and evenly across the lip to give a beautiful semi-matte finish.
Like all Ilia lipsticks, Neon Angel wears incredibly well and requires very little maintenance. As it fades the coverage remains even and there is little sign of the unpleasant gathering of product in the corners of the mouth. Comfortable on the skin and with just the right amount of slip, the lipstick is rich in seed oils (castor, sesame, sunflower and jojoba) which are super hydrating and nourishing, whilst soothing aloe heals and protects.
With bright lips big news this spring/summer, Neon Angel is a great substitute (albeit not necessarily an exact dupe) for many popular choices from the conventional brands including: MAC Pink Nouveau, Illamasqua Eurydice and Nars Schiap.
If you fancy going bright but don’t quite want this level of colour, you could try Jump, it’s sheerer, lip conditioning cousin.
