Fairtrade Fortnight 2018

Today sees the start of the annual Fairtrade Fortnight. Taking place from the February 26th to the March 12th 2018, the objective of Fair-trade Fortnight is to highlight the plight of millions of farmers who don’t earn enough from the sale of their produce to feed their own families.

Founded by the Fairtrade Foundation, Fairtrade Fortnight puts the spotlight on trade and aims to encourage consumers to make considered and informed  choices about the products they purchase.

For those of you not in the know, The Fairtrade Foundation set social, economic and environmental standards for both companies and the farmers and workers. Products which have been produced under the Fairtrade scheme have the potential to improve the lives of the farmers and workers: workers rights are protected, communities are supported and people are empowered. Through Fairtrade exploitation is being fought and communities are being changed for the good.

Of course this is just an incredibly brief summary and the Fairtrade Foundation does much more to ensure farmers get a better deal. You can find out more about the work of the Fairtrade Foundation here.

My own focus over the net couple of weeks  will be predominately along the Fairtrade theme so keep an eye open for some Fairtrade beauty ideas and thoughts.
