Rose Quartz Facial Polish – Evolve Beauty

This winter feels like it’s gone on for ever. Usually I wouldn’t complain but it’s not been properly cold or wintery, just damp and grey. Pretty miserable.  I think I feel this strongly about it this year as I spent nearly six months indoors working in a studio (or workshop) only to emerge at the end of the shoot into greyness; I missed out on sunshine. My skin definitely seems to have suffered as a result (mask wearing hasn’t helped) and so I’ve been working on getting it back in tip-top condition.

Exfoliation is something that we are always taught to do as part of our skincare routine but it is something that can easily be done to excess. Everybody’s skin is different and the number of times you should exfoliate in a week will vary from person to person (personally I exfoliate once a week), you need to listen to your skin as it’s easy to overdo it and cause irritation or damage.

Exfoliators can be physical or chemical (as in AHAs – Alpha-hydroxy acids) and both have their place. I favour gentle physical exfoliators over chemicals but that’s not to say I will turn my nose up at the latter. Physical exfoliators contain grains or granules suspended in a cream of gel which remove the flaky bits but that said they can be super harsh and feel like they are shredding your skin! I have passed so many exfoliators on to other people because I find them too rough!!

Rose Quartz Facial Polish (£22.00) from Evolve Beauty is an exfoliator which I discovered early last year and have since repurchased as I loved it so much. As the name may suggest, particles of Rose Quartz crystal are used to buff away the dead skin cells (rose quartz is said to boost feelings of self love and peace) and unclog pores. You would have thought with particles of crystal it would feel very rough on the skin (I was sceptical on first try) but they are so tiny and don’t feel overly abrasive on the skin.

As with all Evolve products, the polish is packed full of fabulously beneficial organic ingredients. Nourishing Rosehip oil (a natural source of retinol) is rich in omega’s 3 and 6 and promotes cell renewal (helping fight signs of ageing – a win for me!) and of course reduces the appearance of scarring.

Another key ingredient is Organic Hibiscus extract which contains natural acids which exfoliate the skin and it is also rich in antioxidants, protecting against damage from free radical and reducing the appearance of pores.

I always cleanse before exfoliating using a cleansing balm such as the Evolve Cleansing Melt or Upcircle Cleansing Facial Balm or cleansing oil (I’m currently using Skin Alchemists Humble Warrior). I simply massage the Rose Quartz Facial Polish gently onto my skin before rinsing off with warm water.

Just to warn you, this facial polish looks and smells lovely! Remove the lid and you are enveloped in a wave of rose and hibiscus – somewhat Arabian Nights. I always think it smells a little like Turkish Delight (I love the smell but hate the taste)…. Give it a try.
