Couleur Caramel Red Brown Lipstick (No. 201)

I recently worked on a music video for a Hip Hop artist with whom I have worked with a number of occasions. Previous videos have involved pretty standard make-ups – glamour and male grooming, however this was a little different. Think 1920’s prohibition, think tommy guns, pin curls, corsets and pin striped suits…. Yep you’ve guessed it a good ‘ole gangster movie style shoot ’em up – with a twist of course!
With the prep of the male artist out of the way my attention was on the female lead, the glamourous Gangsters Moll. Along with the inevitable smokey eye came the red lip and the focus of this post…
Couleur Caramel Lipstick – Red Brown No. 201
Deep red lips were very much the look d’jour and with a model with very pale complexion and auburn hair, I wanted a shade that wasn’t going to make her look washed out. On the flip side I wanted to ensure that the colour was as historically accurate a possible.
A beautiful shade that I would class as a blue toned raspberry rather than the entitled red brown. 201 isn’t the darkest of reds and not as historically accurate as I would have liked on its own, however I applied a slightly darker pencil all over the lip before applying and this gave the colour just a little more depth.
It is classed as having a glossy pearl finish but in my opinion it is not pearlised in the slightest – just slightly glossy.
Richly moisturising and long lasting, Couleur Caramel lipsticks are great to use on set as they need very little maintenance and touching up. Available in matte, glossy and pearl, there are a great range of Couleur Caramel lipsticks out there – 49 in total, so do check them out.
Sadly I am not sure if this colour is still being produced. I have done a lot of web searching I am still trying to track it down…
Couleur Caramel lipsticks retail at around £14.50 and are available from Beauty Bazaar
Couleur Caramel was launched in 2003 by French manufacturers NatureCos. NatureCos initially created the now defunct Elysambre (you may remember I raved about them once or twice before) and are a company founded on three sustainable principles – Social, environmental and economic. It’s goal was to produce a range of professional quality organic products that are affordable.
For those of you who loved Elysambre, Couleur Carmel is essentially a carbon copy when it comes to much of the range.
