When it comes to nail polish I can pretty much guarantee that you will never see me wearing a nude polish. I’m all about brights and darks and would rather go bare nailed than be seen in a delicate pink or soft cream. I like my polish with a bit of attitude.
With the afore mentioned in mind, I remember being slightly unimpressed when I received Avril’s Chocolate Chaud (£2.60) in a Souk Souk beauty box (now discontinued) some time ago. One quick coat and it was thrown into the the bottom of my nail kit bag and didn’t resurface until a kit cull a few month back.
My initial reaction to Chacolat Chaud was based on one look at the bottle and one wishy washy coat but since the bottle was rediscovered and given a second chance, I realised to took a few coats before you begin to see it’s true personality coming through. Three, even four coats is perfect!
First impressions count and quite honestly, this polish does not impress at first glance. A slightly odd neutral brown in the bottle and on the brush it appears to be a different colour entirely! A few coats on the nail and suddenly you have a slightly edgy, deep taupe brown with a slight purple/grey undertone. Coverage is creamy and opaque and the finish glossy.
I’m fairly hard on nail polish so I’m not very good a judging how well it wears as it never lasts a particular long time on me (I never use a base or top coat) but it certainly was a day or two before I noticed any chips.
Having looked online Chocolate Chaud no longer appears to be available on the Avril website, in fact I only found it available on one site in Hong Kong and one in Bulgaria! You may have to search around to get your mitts on this one I’m afraid.
What are you’re favourite nail polish shades?

It is surprising lovely, I can imagine it would look great – if you can track a bottle down ;)
