Mascara has a limited lifespan and once you’ve finished it, it goes in the bin right? Not necessarily… An Aberdeenshire charity has appealed for donations of (clean) mascara wands to aid them in caring for orphaned and injured baby animals.
Inspired by a similar initiative in the US, the New Arc Animal Rescue Centre use the brushes to groom and comfort the birds and animals who are brought into the centre.
The brushes which have perfectly sized bristles, mimic the grooming the animals would normally receive from their parents and helps keep them clean and healthy; removing mites, dust, fleas and larvae from fur and feathers. It also helps keep the creatures happy as they would .
So before you throw away your old tubes of mascara, why not send the brushes to New Arc?
The brushes must be thoroughly cleaned with warm, soapy water, dried and then sealed in a ziplock bag.
Send the mascara wands to:
The New Arc, Nether Auquhadlie, Auchnagatt,
Ellon, Aberdeenshire, AB41 8UW
It may so be worth checking with your local wildlife rescue centre, to see if they want wands too.
I can’t think of a better way to reuse mascara wands!
