So I am now forty one. Technically I am closer to my forty second birthday than I am to my forty first but I’m going to gloss over that. In all honesty I didn’t deal with the prospect of hitting the big 4-0 very well; I struggled psychologically in the run up to the event and for much of the following year.
Before you feel you have to get emotionally involved, I’m not going to turn this into one of those posts where I discuss women, ageing and society’s thoughts on the matter, because this ain’t that kind of blog, and actually it turns out that forty wasn’t that bad after all. Turning forty one however brought new challenges…
It seems that no matter what you do prior to the event, you wake up on the morning of your forty-first birthday and suddenly your eyelids have become crepey and creased. I kid you not, it happened over night! I suddenly found I really needed to use a proper (and effective) eye cream…
I was originally given a sample of Twelve Beauty’s Rapid Eye Treatment (£44.00) by a friend of mine. I tried it and loved it but being a mere thirty nine year old I had no need of an eye cream right? Fast forward to late 2017 and I have been working my way around the eye cream block before finally trying another sample of Rapid Eye Treatment and deciding it was the product for me.
Rapid Eye Treatment is a nourishing eye lotion designed to smooth fine lines and wrinkles whilst diminishing the appearance of under-eye dark circles, puffiness and signs of fatigue. I am lucky in the respect that unless I am particularly tired or haven’t been drinking enough water, I don’t tend to suffer with strong under eye shadows however the map of fine (smile) lines continues to grow. Funnily enough I don’t really object to the lines; it is the creased and crepey skin I take umbrage with.
If you haven’t come across them perviously, Twelve is masterminded by the effervescent Pedro Catalá, an independent cosmetologist and pharmacist with an additional degree in botany and a PhD in Natural and Formulation Technologies. If you are looking for a scientific approach to organic beauty then Twelve is a brand which is worth further exploration.
Pedro has created a unique blend of twelve key ingredients which work in synergy with the skin; protecting and restoring and ensuring healthier skin for longer. Each product contains four ingredients synonymous with the Twelve Beauty range. White Genepi, Imperatorial leaf, Mallow Flower and Butterfly Bush leaf extracts are blended to create a powerful blend of soothing and healing antioxidants which protect the skin from environmental damage.
Rapid Eye Treatment contains these afore mentioned antioxidants combined with one of my favourite ingredients, hyaluronic acid which hydrates the skin. It also contains a blend of plant peptides (molecular links of amino acids that help your skin to produce collagen) which help to reduce puffiness and dark circles by increasing circulation in the immediate area and therefore improving lymph drainage.
The product itself is a light and reasonably fluid lotion which is perfect for the delicate, thin skin around the eye. Ideally used twice daily, it is designed to be gently smoothed over the eye area – including those pesky crepey lids! You get quite a lot from one pump of the bottle, so I also dot it just above my brows and over my cheekbones or wherever I fancy until I’ve used it up.
I’ve been using Rapid Eye treatment for a few weeks now and have noticed a reduction in the fine lines and a smoother appearance around my eyes. The deeper lines and crepey skin above my eye socket is still there but I am realistic that these won’t go overnight.
Have you found yourself in need of an eye cream of late? If so, which one works for you?
