Organic YOUR September 2016

Org-Sept
The beginning of the month is always a good time to tackle something new and there is no better time than reassess what you eat and the products you use in your day to day life than September.
When I am looking to make a change, I find I have a better rate of achievement if I have an identifiable starting point. For instance, getting back to eating well after a holiday or intense period of work (such as the one I have just completed) doesn’t go well for me if I make the decision to start at 4pm on a Thursday afternoon (by which time cake is generally calling); I find that if I don’t start first thing on a Monday morning then my best laid plans go awry pretty quickly and the same goes for the start of the month.
Organised by The Soil Association, Organic September is the largest campaign dedicated to celebrating all things organic in the UK whilst drawing attention to and tackling issues such as climate change, dietary related ill-heath, pollution and the demise of essential wildlife.
By choosing organic products we supporting farmers globally; ensuring that environmentally sustainable methods are used to manage and farm the land and surrounding natural environment. Animal welfare is higher and significantly lower levels of pesticides and no manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilisers are used on crops, thus reducing our exposure to potentially harmful chemicals and helping to protect our declining wildlife population.
Organic September is not about giving our entire lives an complete organic overhaul but about encouraging us making a small difference and changing just one or two items in your shopping basket. If we all swapped our usual loaf of bread, pint of milk or bottle of shampoo for an organic alternative then we would make a massive difference to both ourselves and the planet – It’s easier than you think!
I like to think I live a reasonably clean existence however there are many improvements still to be made and this September my own focus is on finding cleaner and more ethical household products. I already use reasonably earth friendly products from brands such as Method, Ecover and when I can get it Bio D, however I want to go cleaner.  At this point in my life I simply don’t have the time or inclination to make DIY cleaning products (I am not a friend of housework at the best of times!) so I will be investigating what is readily available (and pre-made) on the organic market. I’ll let you know how I get on…
If you aren’t quite convinced then here are just five reasons why you should Organic Your September…

Throughout the month I’ll be sharing my thoughts on some organic make-up and skincare products and of course will be celebrating Organic Beauty Week (19th – 25th September) later in the month.
Keep an eye out for the hashtags #organicseptember and #organicbeautyweek for ideas, advice and helpful information on what you can do to Organic YOUR September or find out more by visiting The Soil Association website.
