Before I begin this post I want to apologise in advance for what may well turn out to be a bit of run of lip-centric posts. Most of the bits and pieces which have ended up in my kit or personal make-up bag of late have been lip products and pretty much all of them I have wanted/do want to share with you. The second of which (the first being last weeks Bite Beauty Lip Mask) is a lipstick which turned out to be a bit of a surprise to me…
A couple of months ago I was kindly sent a small selection of lipstick from a brand new to the UK; NEEK Organic Skincare. I had seen mention of them online however hasn’t tried them so was quite excited when three bamboo clad lipsticks came through my letterbox – packaged obviously.
Of the shades I received, one was an almost instant winner; Mystify. One of the newest additions to the NEEK stable (there are now eight in the range), Mystify (£15.99) is a light cocoa brown lipstick with a slight pinky undertone.
As I mentioned in the intro Mystify turned out to be a bt of a surprise. When I read in the accompanying product details that Neek took its inspiration for this lipstick from the 1990’s, I have to admit I was sure I would hate it. I remember the 90’s all too well and I don’t recall being a fan of brown lipstick back then – it was what the trendy kids wore and so I intentionally avoided it (I was more into the alternative scene).
The lipstick is 100% natural and vegan friendly and formulated on a base of lip balm consisting of nourishing shea butter, jojoba and avocado oils. The coloured is then added using a blend of mica and pigments.
The brown doesn’t actually look particularly brown on the lip as it does in the tube; more of an incredibly deep nude. On the initial application Mystify is incredibly sheer (as were the other two shades I tried) and there seems to be very little colour payoff however if you persevere the colour builds up and has a soft satin finish. It wears reasonably well but does need topping up after a while.
Surprisingly I’ve been wearing Mystify pretty regularly over the past few weeks; it has fast become my go-to lipstick and I’ve even managed a night out wearing it – although I did leave the combat trousers and cropped vest top at home…
Have you tried the NEEK lipsticks?
