I’ve been going through mascaras like bars of 85% chocolate of late. Having run out of the two I had on the go, I then promptly lost both the replacements in the space of a fortnight! I’m blaming the heat but in reality there is a house fairy somewhere in our midst with a severe mascara addiction…
So mascara number five turned out to be Defining Mascara from Dr Hauschka (£19.00), picked up as I was passing through Wholefoods in Piccadilly a couple of weeks ago. Dr Hauschka Natural mascara was one of the first things to feature on here when this blog was a mere tot (you can read my original post here) so I was interested to see how this recently launched (and newly repackaged) version faired.
Above is a with and without shot (forgive the lack of any other make-up/sleep etc).
The mascara is designed to define and separate the eyelashes. It has a very natural finishes and so for those of you who like big lashes then this particular product probably won’t be for you. I have super stumpy lashes and prefer to have a mascara which creates the illusion of length so have been applying Jane Iredale Lash Extender and Conditioner before the mascara to bulk them out a little.
Available in three shades (black, blue and brown). If you don’t already know (I’m sure I’ve mentioned it once or twice before..), I am a massive fan of blue mascara (by blue I mean navy rather than royal/bright blue); Blue lashes really make my blue eyes pop and I have always loved the lift it gives them. My love for Dr Hauschka’s original natural formulation was initially prompted by the fact it was one of the shades available. Having lost access my beloved blue W3ll People mascara since they were discontinued in the UK, I have been on the lookout for another good blue.
Closer up but couldn’t capture the blue so well
The mascara is formulated with 100% natural ingredients and is designed to be suited for those with sensitive eyes. Castor seed oil and beeswax give the delicate lash hairs nourishment whilst Eyebright which is beneficial for eye health, soothes and aids prevention of inflammation of the mucous membrane. Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract better know to you and I as Green Tea Extract, is a known antioxidant which in these polluting times, can only be good thing.
