Dehydrated skin really effects how make-up appears and sits on the skin and it is especially noticeable on camera, so it is vital to prep the skin thoroughly before applying any make-up; ensuring you add as much moisture as possible in order to lessen fine lines, flaking and dry patches.
Antipodes Hosanna H20 Intensive Skin-Plumping Serum to give it it’s full name, has been in my kit for a couple of years now and has become one of my go-to skincare products prior to make-up application.
The perfect antidote to those who suffer from dehydration, Hosanna H20 is a water-charged, mineral oil-free (it does contain a coconut oil derivative) serum which quenches parched skin. Over time and repeated use it can firm and hydrate the skin, building resistance to damage caused by pollution thanks to the inclusion of Vinanza Grape Antioxidant (from New Zealand grown sauvignon blanc grapes) and Mamaku black fern. Mamaku black fern helps foster cell renewal and independent scientific investigations show that Hosanna significantly stimulates synthesis of Type I collagen in human fibroblast skin cells by up to 72%**.
As with most serums, you need to give it a bit of lead time before applying any make-up. Massage well into clean skin and relax, leaving it to do it’s magic… Once on the skin there is a sense of tightening (like a miniature face lift) and after a few minutes, a visible reduction to the number of fine lines and a slight plumpness to the skin. Imagine a balloon pump has been inserted into a tiny hole in your skin. Inflated.
Down to the serum itself. It’s funny stuff as you can see below; a slightly orangey-brown fluid which does initially look a little off-putting (I find myself explaining it merits prior to application quite frequently!). It looks a bit like an incredibly runny Manuka honey. The scent isn’t unpleasant, just a little herbal smelling.
Antipodes Hosanna H20 Serum is priced at around £28.00
